What is an Associate Degree?

An associate degree is categorized as an undergraduate degree and is usually the first stage taken after secondary school. Associate degrees usually take two years of full-time courses to complete, which is approximately 60 hours of college credit.

These degree programs include a variety of general education courses to give students a solid foundation across several disciplines, such as English, Math, and Social Sciences. Associate degrees also allow students to choose course electives or degree emphases that reflect their personal interests or career goals. Because of that foundation, students with an associate degree can often transfer into a bachelor’s degree program as a junior.
